ORC – Spring Edition

It’s that time of year! It felt like such a great accomplishment last fall when we completed the laundry area that I really want to participate in the One Room Challenge – Spring Edition. I think this time around will be a little less stressful and a lot less of a last-minute time crunch. And I can’t wait to see the rooms that everyone decides to make-over!

As you all know, the interior of our home is pretty much done. There are just a few minor touches here and there that I want to spruce up. And while I would love to get our back patio done in six weeks, it’s really just not possible. I’m pretty sure the hubby (and anyone else who I would’ve managed to pull in) would kill me. So in the upcoming five weeks I will be updating the front area of our home! I am so excited to move towards having the prettiest house on the block!

In case you need a reminder, here is how the front of our house currently looks. It is seriously depressing and needs some loving.

On a more exciting note, how fun are those paint colors?!
At least the weeds are all green?
One of these days I am going to take some Round-Up to these weeds…

You can check out the home paint color inspirations here, but there are a ton of other projects I want to do as well. Weeding will clean everything up quite a bit. And I will be adding a fresh layer of mulch around the roses to keep them looking good and healthy.  Luckily Home Depot is having their Spring Break Black Friday sale! You better believe I went on a major shopping spree!  And I definitely roped in my mom to help me pick out all of the plants. She knows her stuff! Hopefully everything I got is pretty durable. Roses? I got them. Those don’t die. Anything else? We will see…

Looking at pretty much all of my inspiration photos, apparently I need to add some peaks to my house. But since that is near impossible, I will add in charm using wood accents instead. I really want to make some nice, chunky, natural window shutters. And some planter boxes that complete the window look. I am going to have to figure out a way to keep the color looking fresh though. Gotta keep my eyes out for some durable finish coating.

I also want to make sure that the brick along the bottom of the house can be shown. I love brick, and I would hate to hide it away. Low-lying flowers are going to be key.

Since we use the path to the back of the house along the left side I want to lay down some really cool gravel. We will need to be able to drive over it, but I don’t want it to be dry and hot. I am hoping that I can figure out a way to keep the gravel from being an eyesore. Maybe adding in some moss or clover or something? Or somehow incorporate the railroad ties that we have been saving for years now? Anyone have any ideas?

I can’t wait to get started!

  1. I love outdoor makeovers. There’s so much potential with your yard! I just wanna can my hands in there (oh wait, I have enough work to do one my own yard, lol!).
